Secrets of The Sweetest Place on Earth

June 2, 2017

Milton Hershey dreamed of a place where his employees and residents of the eponymous factory town would have a family-friendly environment to picnic and boat. Hersheypark officially opened on April 24, 1907 with the first baseball pitch at the new Hershey Field as Mr. and Mrs. Hershey watched from the grandstand.
Some sweet Hersheypark facts for your Hersheypark school trip group to savor:
(1) In 2000, Hersheypark won the “Applause Award,” presented bi-annually by Liseberg Park of Sweden recognizing excellence and inspiration in the theme park industry.
(2) Last year, more than 800 gallons of ice cream were used for king-sized shakes and about 340,000 units of candy were sold. The most popular candy purchased are the Giant bars, followed by King Size bars.
(3) Only one horse on the carousel has a closed mouth. One of the carousel’s horses
is painted in honor of Milton S. Hershey.  The horse’s colors, chocolate brown and gold, match the colors of the school he founded.
(4) The new Hershey Triple Tower allows guests to choose the tower they would like to ride depending on their fear level.  The Hershey’s Tower stands 189 feet high and rockets riders to the top before blasting back to the bottom at 45 miles per hour.  The shorter Reese’s Tower measures 131 feet high.  For acrophobic guests, the Hershey’s Kisses Tower is a mere 80 feet high.
(5) When it opened in 1977, the Sooperdooperlooper was the first modern looping coaster on the East Coast. This year, the coaster turns 40 years-old!
(6) With your Hersheypark ticket, you can enter the park the night before for more than 2 1/2 hours of sweet fun!  All employees receive complimentary admission.
(7) The Frog Hopper and Tilt-a-Whirl are the only two rides in the Park that have an
odd number of fixed ride vehicles (cars, trains or seats that you sit in during a ride). Each ride has seven.
(8) The Park is allergy friendly.  Gluten and nut free options are included among menu items at the park.
