Transforming Yorktown Victory Center into American Revolution Museum at Yorktown

July 20, 2015

The Yorktown Victory Center is undergoing a transformation with an imposing new facility – the façade linked to Yorktown area architecture – and a reconfigured site plan allowing for expanded, vibrant gallery exhibits and enhanced outdoor interpretive programming.  A new name – American Revolution Museum at Yorktown® – will be implemented upon completion of the project in late 2016. The original Yorktown Victory Center building, dating to 1976, was designed primarily to serve as a visitor center and was adapted to serve evolving needs.  The new plan presents an extraordinary opportunity to provide visitors a renewed perspective on the meaning and impact of the American Revolution and an exceptionally compelling experience to complement other attractions in the Yorktown-Williamsburg-Jamestown area.

The Yorktown Victory Center continues to welcome visitors throughout construction, which started in mid-2012.  Early planning was funded by state appropriations and revenue generated by the Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation, the state agency that operates the Yorktown Victory Center. Building and exhibit construction and renovations to the site, including living-history areas, are funded by the Commonwealth of Virginia. Private donations to the Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation, Inc., are supporting elements of gallery and outdoor exhibits and educational resources.
